IVAN VILLA
Villa, born in the Antioquian region of Colombia, enriched his artistic work while studying under Instructor Iván Belsky in Venezuela. It was nearly 20 years ago that Villa’s interest in traditional painting awoke.

Villa’s artwork expresses Colombian idiosyncrasies with an emphasis on tradition. His trademarks, natural elements and serene environments, evoke passed times. Villa’s humble elements take life and create original compositions.
Villa’s famous colonial paintings serve as portals into a magical world. His still life paintings stir up feelings of nostalgia; they evoke thoughts of strolls through the marketplace, the sweet smell of mangoes, oranges, granadillas, zapotes, and coconuts. The colors, smells, and sounds all meld to become one wave that transports you to an enchanted place and culture.

Throughout his more than two decades of professional activity Villa has exhibited his works in more than 40 solo shows in Colombia (including an exhibit at the United States embassy in Bogotá), Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama. In addition, he has also participated in more than 30 group exhibitions. Villa is a founding member of the Cajica Cultural Center and an active advisor to other cultural centers being established nationwide.
