ALVARO PEREZ
After viewing his compositions there is no surprise that Alvaro Medina Perez was born in the coastal city of Villa Clara, Cuba near the Caribbean Sea. After a brief passage and series of events in the world of aviation, Alvaro decided to change careers and follow a passion that he had previously overlooked, painting.
His works were slowly being recognized until the highly respected Professor Eugenio Velasco acknowledged his talent and spread word of his work. Beyond the materials used in his works (canvas, printing ink and acrylic) Alvaro’s paintings look at us from the media and challenges us to the adventure of interpretation.
Alvaro converts his drawings into colorful canvases without forgetting that talent is not instilled through the reality of the painting but through the paintings symbolism. The fish in Alvaro’s canvases are the vehicle of ideas for someone who grew up surrounded by fishermen, who he fondly calls “big liars, since they always seem to have the biggest fish escape from them.”
