LEONARDO SALAZAR
Salazar Leonardo is an artist who carries the riches of his Colombian home with him.
He grew up in “La Candelaria,” an area known for its artistic community.
Leonardo captures the unseen side of things- the wind is invisible, but we feel it and in this case we feel it with a sense of peace. The colors and strokes also evoke what Colombians have felt ... a balanced harmony between the most ferocious hurricanes and the dreamlike moments of breeze of tranquility.
“I wanted to leave the whole pace process plasm on each work. They are variable and change sensations each moment. I refer to it in various ways ... as with the material Jute, which is very symbolic of Colombia since it one of our main materials to pack all our land products as coffee, potatoes, rice etc. It also represents that with a peaceful and legal approach we can reach everybody, attracting the best of us.
New collection of sculptures. Created from local river stones, where waters have run peacefully for hundreds of years and have sculpted each stone. He repurposes them to create his bear sculptures into interesting meaningful figurative objects. Bears are his main theme bring feelings of tenderness, of childhood and most of all they help see life in a simpler and positive way.
The bears play with ideas of nostalgia and childhood memories in their finished forms. The rocks, shaped for millions of years, are a living imprint of Colombia’s past. Like the bed of Lake Guatavita and El Dorado’s mythical entrance, their real worth is their history and its interaction with the present. These sculptures will very possibly be found soon in the Bogota Museum of Modern Art.
