ANDRES SANTODOMINGO
Colombia, b. 1955

Andres’ artistic vision is deeply rooted in astrology and tarot, mythological conceptions often frequent his works. Santo Domingues works primarily in oils, portraying intimate settings, landscapes that are underscored by a visual complexity achieved through rhythmic orchestrations of vibrant colors and expressive brushstrokes. He simultaneously imparts distance and immediacy, contrasts the grandeur of idealized landscape with sensuous color fields.

In each of these works, the artist’s hand seems to liberate reminiscent images. Visual apparitions penetrate through the canvas in an unexpected way. He invents a game of truth where memories, like footprints, fade and confuse themselves with the pictorial background.

Andres claims this vibration is comparable to the colors of the aura, or a psychic energy field surrounding all living things. Each of the aura colors whether lighter or darker, represent a person’s mood, health, mind and spirit.

Andres has published works in numerous art journals. He always invites his viewers to reflect on the balance between societal values and nature; consumption and waste versus restoration and preservation.
